Flash Design

Many businesses choose to use Flash-based website designs due to their modern and professional look. And whilst the look of any business website is important, you must also consider the fact that you could be missing out on search engine traffic by ignoring basic search engine optimisation (SEO).

In order to produce targeted results the search engines will regularly 'crawl' your site to determine its topic, but Flash can't be read by these engines. As such, your website isn't going to appear in the relevant results pages.

Flash also takes over one of the most important elements of your page in terms of SEO - the header. This is where most of your keywords and valuable descriptions will be included, all there to be picked up by the search engines. But if the header's not there, neither are the free search engine benefits!

Another reason why Flash can prove detrimental to the search engine success of your website is down to its URL. When users navigate a site that's made entirely from Flash, the page address will stay the same no matter what page they are on. Traditional websites will have a different URL for each page, and each of these URLs can be potentially added to search engine directories. With a Flash site, you only have one URL. This could be cutting off hundreds of pages from being added to the search engines.

It is true that Adobe have been working hard to improve the way that flash files are indexed by Google & the other search engines, but it is still far harder to acheive search engine success with websites built in flash.
